Year 6

The transition from primary to secondary school is an important stage in the lives of children and their families. At La Mare de Carteret High School we have an extensive transition programme to ensure all students have a successful induction; and to help students and parents minimise anxiety about the change.Β

We want all students who attend La Mare de Carteret High school to become familiar with their new routines; develop new friendships and improve their self-esteem and confidence.Β To help with this change the school will invite your child to two Transition Days. On the Transition Day students will be able to meet their Head of Year, Form Tutor and a number staff who will play an important role in their journey at the school. There will be taster lessons throughout the day and time to become familiar with the new school surroundings.

Further to the Transition Days, La Mare de Carteret High School will invite parents and carers to our Welcome Evening. There will be a short presentation on our school expectations and practices which we require you and your child to follow. There will be opportunities to discuss further pastoral support, school expectations and key events for the academic year. In addition, you will meet Form Tutors and other parents. As part of the transition process we will ask you to complete some documentation that will help the school to guide your child in this early period and this documentation can also be found on the school website.

At La Mare de Carteret High school we endeavour to ensure ever child has a positive experience and we feel that both the Transition Days and the Welcome Evening will help with this process.

We look forward to welcoming all the children and parents/ carers to our school community and are excited about the journey ahead.
